Process Scale-Up of a Sublimation Process

Situation

A specialty chemical manufacturer required a larger packaging system to dispense liquid organometallics which are produced via sublimation. Equipment to accomplish this process per the customer’s specifications was not commercially available.

Approach

IMPACT personnel developed a scaling basis for sublimation and used these to design a custom, large scale sublimation system to meet the client’s processing needs.

Results

The system became operational within 6 months of project initiation and has been used to successfully produce a number of different products. The client has realized a significant reduction in production costs/volume due to the higher throughput of the large scale sublimation system versus their previous multiple small batch operations.
